Alicat™ Scientific Releases Extended Flow Range for Hydrogen Applications

Alicat Scientific, a leading manufacturer of mass flow and pressure instrumentation, has introduced an extension to its standard mass flow line: hydrogen mass flow meters & controllers with 10,000 SLPM full scale flow. This expansion addresses the escalating demand for precise and efficient control in crucial hydrogen-related applications, such as electrolysis and fuel cell testing.
The extended flow range offers exceptional performance at:
- Hydrogen flow rates up to 12,000 SLPM
- Pressures up to 320 PSIA
- Up to 100% relative humidity, non-condensing
- Temperatures ranging from –10°C to +60°C
This high flow range boasts an accuracy of ±0.8% of reading and ±0.2% of full scale, with a measurement and control range of 0.4-100% (500:1 turndown). This extension builds upon Alicat’s existing M-Series and MC-Series differential pressure (DP) flow instruments for over 98 gases with full scale flow rates from 0.5 SCCM to 5,000 SLPM.

The Alicat DP mass flow line is complemented by two additional mass flow lines:
- CODA Coriolis: measurement and control of hydrogen up to 4,000 PSIA.
- BASIS thermal: hydrogen control in OEM applications with flow rates up to 50 SLPM.
Alicat Scientific’s mass flow instruments are typically used in conjunction with their extensive range of pressure controllers. They may control the back pressure on an electrolyser while measuring the output of an electrolyser, or provide precise and fast control in fuel cell testing. The expansion of this range underscores the demand for innovative solutions in these and other applications across the hydrogen industry.
