Alicat Scientific has been manufacturing and servicing high-quality mass flow and pressure devices since 1991, and we have grown every year for over 20 years. Each instrument is a custom-made building block that might be employed in support of space rockets, hydrogen fuel cells, medical oxygen delivery systems, environmental monitoring stations… or anywhere precision gas instruments can advance science and industry.

Job summary

Do you enjoy interfacing hardware with software? Does the thought of handling multiple I/O streams in a multi-threaded environment make you salivate rather than run for cover? Does throwing all of these streams of data into a coherent and well-designed UI make the job sound even more fun and rewarding? Would you like to engage with technicians on the manufacturing floor and help make their ideas come to life and reap benefits that everyone can feel on a daily basis? 

If so, you could be responsible for creating software that performs compensation and quality processes on some of the world’s most accurate flow and pressure controllers. The software you create will interface serially with our devices or even through industrial protocols such as Modbus or EtherNet/IP. These platforms will be responsible for communicating with hundreds of devices concurrently while also logging, charting, and scripting various actions in real-time. The software will control processes that allow our devices to be built efficiently and predictably, no matter what variability is introduced. 

We need a creative, desktop-based software engineer who will refine and develop new applications to accelerate scientific device development. 


  • Extensive knowledge of object-oriented design strategies and best practices in .NET C# 
  • Advanced UI/UX development skills in WinForms (most of the existing applications use WinForms with DevExpress/Telerik UI components) 
  • Experience in SQL and other relational databases, including ORM frameworks such as Entity Framework 
  • Applied knowledge in threading/concurrency and the benefits/challenges it introduces in developing performant systems 
  • Passion for seeking out and pursuing high-quality solutions to complex problems 
  • History of getting things done
