Alicat Totalizer Tutorial: Laminar DP Instruments

To operate totalizers on Alicat Coriolis and MEMS thermal flow instruments, see the CODA manual and BASIS manual .

While a meter measures the rate of flow at any given moment, a mass flow totalizer measures the total accumulated mass of a particular gas (or gas mixture) that has been flowed in a process. The totalizer function can also be used with a mass flow controller to dispense batches of set amounts of gas.

To use the totalizer on controllers and meters with displays, see below for instructions.

10v Firmware

Select: MENU > SETUP > Sensor > Totalizer > Totalizer 1 or Totalizer 2

  • M AVG or V AVG shows totalizer averaging, which displays average flow rate since last reset, updated live.
  • SLPM (or another measurement of mass flow) displays the live flow rate. Press to change engineering units.
  • SETPT displays the current setpoint on controllers. Press to set or clear a setpoint.
  • PEAK displays the peak flow rate since the last totalizer reset.
  • BATCH selects the quantity to be dispensed in each batch. -NONE- appears if the batch mode is off. Only available on controllers.
  • RESET clears all totalized data and immediately resets the timer to 0. Starts a new batch immediately, if the controller has a non-zero setpoint.
  • MENU enters the main menu.
  • NEXT moves to the second totalizer (if enabled)

See the manual to enable and configure further settings.

9v firmware

Select: MAIN DISPLAY > NEXT (totalizer menu)

  • TOTAL/TIMER toggles between totalized flow and elapsed time as the highlighted parameter in the center.
  • SETPT displays the current setpoint. Press to set or clear a setpoint.
  • SLPM (or another measurement of mass flow) displays the live flow rate. Press to change engineering units.
  • (Optional) M AVG or V AVG: Shows totalizer averaging, which displays average flow rate since last reset, updated live.
  • SL: Alternating display of selected engineering units for flow or time and the selected gas.
  • BATCH selects the quantity to be dispensed in each batch. -NONE- appears if the batch mode is off.
  • RESET clears all totalized data and immediately resets the timer to 0. The next batch, if set, begins immediately.
  • MENU enters the main menu.

See the 9v manuals to enable and configure further settings.

Step-by-step instructions (front panel)

  1. Press the bottom right button for “TOTAL” selection.
  2. If desired, press the top right button to toggle the largest displayed value between totalized flow and time.
  3. If desired, press the bottom middle button to “RESET” the totalizer.
  4. Press the bottom left button for “BATCH” selection.
  5. Use the up, down, and select digit buttons to set your desired batch size.
  6. Press the bottom right button for “SET” selection.

Note:  The batch will begin immediately with a non-zero setpoint.
