How to Read/Edit Registers from the Front Panel and Factory Restore

Using the Front Panel to Edit or View Register Values or Factory Restore

Alicat devices have shown register values on the screen for many years, and a lot of applications have taken advantage of changing them with a computer.  With 8v or newer firmware revisions, registers can now also be edited from the main screen.  This can help to easily reconfigure a device in the field.

Before changing any registers, remember to record the original value for safe-keeping.

If using the factory restore, please be warned that this will reset all registers to the values they were the last time they were at an Alicat location.  That means any changes (including calibration) done by a third party will not be saved.

If you have any questions, or don’t find quite what you’re looking for, please contact an Applications Engineer for assistance.

“Hello.  My name is Michael Whiteside.  I’m an Applications Engineer here at Alicat Scientific.  In this video, I’m going to be showing you how to read and edit registers, as well as how to factory restore the device from the front display.  Now, let’s get started.”

In order to read and edit registers from your Alicat device, we will hit MENU (bottom right button), ABOUT (top middle button), DEVICE STATE (top middle button), and we have a long list of registers here where you can page over (by pressing the PAGE button in the top right).

In order to edit any of these registers, we will hit EDIT (bottom middle button), EDIT REGISTR (top left button), and since (register) 21 is already selected we will change that.  Press the SET button (bottom right), and we will change it to, say, a value of 50 (by using the UP, DOWN, and SELECT DIGIT buttons as needed).  Finally press SET in the bottom right.

That is how you edit registers.  Just a fair warning, we recommend that you do not edit any registers without the help of an Applications Engineer at Alicat Scientific, as changing these registers can affect the performance of a device.

In order to factory restore the device, we will go that same route.  MENU (bottom right button), ABOUT (top middle button), DEVICE STATE (top middle button), EDIT (bottom middle button), and we see FACTORY RESTORE at the bottom here.  We will click that (bottom middle button).

It will give us a warning that the device will go back to its default configuration when it left our facility. At this point, the screen says:

The device will be set to the factory configuration and calibration.
Verify that the user changes should be deleted.

You will hit set, and that is how you factory reset a device.
