Changing engineering units tutorial

You can easily change the engineering units displayed on your Alicat device and/or in the serial data. You can even have the display use a different set of engineering units from the serial data. For your convenience, each device comes pre-loaded with all relevant engineering units.

See below for instructions on changing the engineering units on your device.

“Hello, my name is Michael Whiteside. I am an applications engineer here at Alicat Scientific. Today, I’m going to show you how to change your engineering units on the front display of an Alicat device. Now let’s get started.

In order to change the engineering units on your Alicat device, this can be done one of two ways. The first, we will hit menu (bottom right button), basic configuration (bottom left button), and device units in the top middle here.

Now we see there’s a list of different variables we can change the units for. We have mass flow, volumetric flow, pressure, and temperature, as well as the totalizer units if you do have the totalizer enabled on your device.

Say we would just like to hit mass flow (bottom right button). We see it is currently selected for SLPM. We can scroll down to this long list of units (top left button for ‘up’, top middle button for ‘down’). Say we will change this to SCCM, hit set (bottom middle button).

It will give us a warning that pressing set will affect the display and the serial data frame, so we will confirm this (bottom right button). If we go back to the main menu, we can see that the flow rate is now in SCCM.

The second way we can change the units is by simply clicking the variable. Say we would like to change the temperature. We will click that, click it once more, and it will ask us to change the button engineering units or the device engineering units.

Now the button engineering units changes the units on only the front display, whereas the device engineering units change the units on the front display as well as the serial data frame. We will just select button engineering units now (bottom right button).

Say we would like to change this to Kelvin (top left button for ‘up’, top middle button for ‘down’). We will it set (bottom right button), and now we can see the temperature is in Kelvin. That is how to properly change the engineering units on your Alicat device.”
