An Alicat device with Ethernet-based protocols<\/a> has an IP address to distinguish it from other devices on the network. This can be set either as a static address, or an address determined by a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. The front panel accessibility for this feature makes it possible to change your Alicat IP address without additional software.<\/p>\n

\u201cHello my name is Michael Whiteside.\u00a0 I am an applications engineer here at Alicat Scientific.\u00a0 In this video, I am going to be showing you the various ways to set an IP address on the front display of an Alicat device.\u00a0 Now let\u2019s get started!<\/p>\n

\n

Alicat devices configured with EtherNet\/IP or other EtherNet based industrial protocols will require an IP address in order to distinguish the device from other devices on the network.\u00a0 To adjust these settings, we will go into \u201cMENU\u201d (bottom right button), \u201cADV SETUP\u201d (bottom middle button), and \u201cCOMM STATUS\u201d at the top here (top middle button).\u00a0 We see it is configured for EtherNet\/IP and it is currently waiting for the network, as it has not been connected to a PLC or a computer.<\/p>\n

With that being said, we can still adjust the address source at the top here (top left button).\u00a0 We see we have three sources: static address, DHCP server, as well as web server configuration.\u00a0 We first start with static address, hit \u201cSET\u201d (bottom right button).\u00a0 We can define a subnet mask at the top here (top middle button) and confirm that.\u00a0 Then we can assign a static IP address (top right button), and we will hit \u201cSET\u201d (bottom right button).<\/p>\n

Now changing the address source to DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) will allow the device to accept to accept a dynamic IP address using DHCP.\u00a0 Changing the source to our last source here, web server configuration, will allow the device to communicate over the Alicat embedded web server to adjust the IP address as well as other configuration settings.\u00a0 This can be done by simply typing in the existing IP address into a web browser.<\/p>\n

That is how you adjust your IP address as well as communication settings on an Alicat device.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

  1. Press the bottom right, \u201cMENU\u201d, button to open the menu.<\/li>\n
  2. Press the bottom middle, \u201cADV SETUP\u201d, button to open the Advanced Setup Menu.<\/li>\n
  3. Press the top middle, \u201cCOMM STATUS\u201d, button to open the Communication Status Menu.<\/li>\n
  4. Press the top left, \u201cADDR SOURCE\u201d, button to open up the Address Source Menu.<\/li>\n
  5. Use the up and down buttons to select your desired address source.<\/li>\n
  6. Press the bottom right button for \u201cSET\u201d selection.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Static Address<\/h3>\n

    1. Press the top middle, \u201cSUBNET MASK\u201d, button to open up the Subnet Mask Menu.<\/li>\n
    2. Use the up, down, and select digit buttons to enter in your desired subnet mask.<\/li>\n
    3. Press the bottom right button for \u201cSET\u201d selection.<\/li>\n
    4. Press the top right, \u201cSLAVE ADDR\u201d, button to open up the Slave Address Menu.<\/li>\n
    5. Use the up, down, and select digit buttons to enter in your desired IP address.<\/li>\n
    6. Press the bottom right button for \u201cSET\u201d selection.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Note: The \u201cSUBNET MASK\u201d and \u201cSLAVE ADDR\u201d menus are only available when the address source is set to \u201cStatic\u201d.<\/p>\n
