Here we discuss those advantages and include a deep dive into their benefits using lab-grown diamonds as an example application.\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Higher accuracy for multiple gases, even with fluctuating process conditions<\/h2>\nFor thermal mass flow instruments, accuracy is limited by errors in specific heat capacity assumptions and calculation restrictions such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/k-factor#:~:text=The%20unit%20of%20measurement%20for%20thermal%20conductivity%20%28%CE%BB%29,below%200.06%20W%2F%20%28mK%29%20are%20considered%20insulating%20materials.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">K-factor conversions<\/a> when switching between gases.\n\nIn contrast, Alicat\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alicat.com\/products\/gas-flow\/mass-flow-controller\/laminar-dp-mass-flow-controllers\/\">laminar differential pressure mass flow instruments<\/a> are preloaded with gas tables full of temperature and pressure data. This time saved translates to higher output and profitability.\n\n&nbsp;\n<h2>Less restrictive, with no need for straight pipes<\/h2>\nDue to the nature of convective heating, thermal mass flow instruments must be installed with straight piping and perfect horizontal integration. Conversely, laminar differential pressure mass flow instruments can be installed in any configuration as measurements are not affected by adjusting their flow body orientation.
