    • Beautiful display built into the device lets you see your process at the process. Simultaneous digital and analog outputs also let you control from a distance.
    • Measurement of multiple parameters: Mass flow, volumetric flow, temperature and pressure. All parameters are displayed on a single screen for easy monitoring of process gasses or liquids. Any of the measurement parameters can be enlarged in the center position for reading at further distances from the instrument. All of the displayed process parameters are measured in real time, which allows you to look at the device display and quickly get an idea of how your process is operating. When a process begins to fail, this information can significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to diagnose and repair the failure.

    Gas Select

    The user can choose any of 30 different gases (Air, Argon, Methane, Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, Ethane, Hydrogen, Helium, Nitrogen, Nitrous Oxide, Neon, Oxygen, Propane, normal-Butane, Acetylene, Ethylene, iso-Butane, Krypton, Xenon, Sulfur Hexaflouride, 75% Argon + 25% C02, 90% Argon + 10% CO2, 92% Argon + 8% CO2, 98% Argon + 2% CO2, 75% Argon + 25% Helium, 75% Helium + 25% Argon, 75% CO2 + 25% Argon Helistar® A1025, Stargon® CS, 95% Argon + 5% CH4) from the gas select menu on the display or via RS-232 communication. This means that a single Alicat can take the place of a multitude of our competitor’s products, which are calibrated for only one gas, and it is no longer necessary to purchase different meters for each gas.

    Dynamic digital display w/ Push Button Interface

    Alicat mass flow, volumetric flow and pressure control instruments come standard with a graphics display that gives the operator a multitude of information and precise field control over the device via a simple push-button interface.

    Programmable Geometric Running Average

    Alicat mass flow meters have special built in software to allow the user to slow down an inherently fast response time. This allows the user to read mass flow rates that might be rapidly fluctuating by taking more samples and averaging them before updating the display and analog output.

    Field Adjustable PID Loop Tuning

    All Alicat mass flow, volumteric flow and pressure controllers have a field adjustable PID loop which can be field tuned via the push button interface on the display, or via RS-232 communication. The generic tune applied at the factory will run properly in most systems, but the ability to tweak the tuning to match a given system can make the difference in whether the system simply runs, or whether it runs well.

    Along with enhanced resolution, this processor has enabled our mass flow meters and mass flow controllers to grow in capability, response and stability.

    Local or remote control function for controllers

    The push button interface allows the user to select whether the mass flow controller will recognize either a local set point entered via the push button interface, an analog set point provided to the mini-DIN connector, or a serial set point provided via RS-232 communication.

    Multiple analog outputs

    All Alicat mass flow meters and mass flow controllers have an analog output and RS-232 I/O, however a second analog output can also be ordered. The second analog output can be either a second output for the mass flow rate or the second output might also be the volumetric flow rate, the absolute pressure or the temperature. In addition, the analog outputs can be ordered independently as 0- 5 Vdc, 0-10 Vdc, 1-5 Vdc, or 4-20 mA signals.

    Tare Function: Automatic, Push Button or Remote

    All Alicat mass flow meters, mass flow controllers and pressure controllers with display include a push button tare the operator can use to zero the meter when no flow is present. With Alicat mass flow, volumetric and pressure controllers, the tare is automatic when the set point is at zero for longer than 2 seconds. A remote tare (ground to tare) is also included for mass flow meters in integrated applications.

    Mass flow controllers may be used to control absolute pressure or volume flow

    Field selectable loop closure allows a mass flow controller to control absolute pressure or volumetric flow rate. This saves in component and design costs, as the mass controller can be set to be a pressure controller that also provides information on the actual mass flow and volumetric flow rates. (Note: Retuning loop parameters P & D may be necessary).

    Alicat mass flow products provide alternative units of measure, gas mixes, totalization, alternate STPs and more at low cost.

  • Speed of Response
    Alicat instruments’ inherently fast speed of response results from the method of measurement used. By relying on differential pressure measurement Alicat mass flow meters are able to respond to changes in flow within 10ms and Alicat controllers within 100ms.

    Increased speed of response yields faster processes and better results. The faster a controller can respond to changes the more stable and more reliable a system becomes. Think of the accelerator and brake characteristics on an automobile. The faster the acceleration and braking systems make changes the easier it is to drive the car. If you apply gas or brake you want the car to begin moving, or stop, as quickly as possible. If there is a delay of several seconds in accelerating or braking the result would likely be an accident.

    Many processes work in much the same way. The slower the controls are to respond, the harder it is to work with the system. Although it may not seem to be as critical to change gas flow as it is to stop a car, in some cases the cost of incorrect gas flow at critical times could be a lot more expensive than a simple fender bender.

  • Limited Lifetime Warranty
    Alicat Scientific, Inc. warrants to the original purchaser (hereinafter referred to as “Buyer”) that instruments manufactured by Alicat Scientific (hereinafter referred to as “Product”) shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the Products.

    Under this warranty, the Product will be repaired or replaced at manufacturer’s option, without charge for parts or labor when the Product is carried or shipped prepaid to the factory together with proof of purchase.

    The foregoing shall constitute the exclusive and sole remedy in lieu of other remedies of the Buyer for any breach by Alicat Scientific of this warranty to the maximum extent permitted by law.

    This warranty does not apply to any Product which has not been installed or used in accordance with the Product operation and installation specifications provided to Buyer verbally or in writing by Alicat Scientific for the proper and normal use of the Product

    Buyer agrees hereunder that Alicat reserves the right to void any warranty, written or implied, if upon Alicat’s examination of Product shall disclose to Alicat’s satisfaction that the Product failure was due solely, or in part, to accident, misuse, neglect, abuse, alteration, improper installation, unauthorized repair or improper testing by Buyer or agent of Buyer

    Alicat Scientific shall not be liable under any circumstances for indirect, special, consequential, or incidental damages in connection with, or arising out of, the sale, performance, or use of the Products covered by this warranty.

    Alicat Scientific does not recommend, warrant or assume responsibility for the use of the Products in life support applications or systems.

    Alicat’s warranties as herein above set forth shall not be enlarged, diminished or affected by, and no obligation or liability shall arise or grow out of Alicat’s rendering of technical advice in connection with Buyer’s order of the Products furnished hereunder.

    If Product becomes obsolete, Alicat Scientific, at its own discretion, reserves the right to repair the Product with available replacement parts or upgrade the Product to a current , commercially available version of the original Product. Should upgrading the Product be deemed necessary by Alicat, Buyer hereby agrees to pay an upgrade fee equal to seventy percent of the retail value of the replacement Product. Alicat Scientific hereunder makes no claim that replacement Products will look, function or operate in the same or similar manner as the original product.

    When a Product is returned to Alicat Scientific for recalibration this service is considered normal preventative maintenance. Recalibration of Product shall not be treated as a warranty service unless recalibration of Product is required as the result of repairs to Product pursuant to this Warranty. Failure of Buyer to return Product for recalibration by Alicat Scientific on a yearly basis after a period of 36 months from date of manufacture will remove any and all obligations regarding repair or replacement of Product as outlined by this Warranty to Buyer from Alicat Scientific. Calibration by Alicat Scientific after 36 months from date of first calibration, will extend this Warranty for a period of 12 months.

    This Warranty is in lieu of all other relevant warranties, expressed or implied, including the implied warranty of merchantability and the implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose, and any warranty against infringement of any patent.

    Continued use or possession of Products after expiration of the applicable warranty period stated above shall be conclusive evidence that the warranty is fulfilled to the full satisfaction of Buyer.

    Alicat makes no warranty as to experimental, non-standard or developmental Products.

    Accessories purchased from Alicat are not covered by this warranty.

    Maintenance

    Alicat Scientific instruments require minimal maintenance. Please refer to the Operating Manual that accompanied your device for specific recommendations.

    Factory Service

    Alicat Scientific provides recalibration, repair, reprogramming and upgrade options at our factory. Since many problems can be solved in the field, it is highly recommended that you contact our technical support department for troubleshooting and application assistance. All factory services, both warranty and non-warranty, require an authorized Return Materials Authorization (RMA) Number. Before sending any device to us for any factory service you must contact us for an authorized Return Materials Authorization Number.

    This can be most easily accomplished by using the online Return Request Form. We will issue an RMA Number and contact you within one business day of receiving this information. If you return a device without an authorized RMA Number, it will not be serviced until a Return Request Form is completed and an RMA Number assigned. The model number and serial number of each unit can be found on the label on the back of the device. The Serial Number, Model Number, and Date of Manufacture are also available on the Identity Mode screen of any device with a display.

    Recalibration

    The recommended period for recalibration is once every year for most Alicat Scientific devices. A label located on the back of the device shows the date of the most recent calibration. The device should be returned to the factory for recalibration near the listed due date. Please complete the Return Request Form and fax it to us before calling to schedule a recalibration.

    Factory Service and Repairs

    If your device requires factory service apart from standard recalibration, please provide us with as much detail as possible in the “Reason for Return” section of the Return Request Form. Please expect a turnaround time of two weeks for most factory service depending on current backlog and complexity of the service. Expedited services may incur additional fees.

    An Alicat representative will contact you to confirm payment and shipping terms. Please note that our shipping department cannot return your unit(s) until we have received a hard copy of your purchase order or credit card information. This may be accomplished by Fax, printable email or a hard copy PO sent with your device.

  • Cost of Ownership
    A mass flow meter or controller can be an expensive investment for any company. So can any flow instrument for that matter. More importantly, you should probably stop and ask yourself what would it cost you if you bought one flow instrument versus another.

    Mass flow instrumentation varies in cost based on the type of technology or the features included with the device. Variations can range from products that require a small fortune to buy through products that are questionably cheap. Price is an important factor when it comes to making a decision to buying a flow instrument. But, does the cost of owning a device stop at the purchase price?

    When establishing a price you are going to pay for a flow device, or any piece of equipment for that matter, it is important to take into account the cost of ownership.

    Cost of ownership is calculated by examining the direct and indirect costs of owning a piece of equipment. Direct costs are up front costs associated with owning a piece of equipment. Direct costs are costs like the cost of device, labor costs to run the device, support and infrastructure required to run the device. Indirect costs are the costs that can be unplanned and can cost a company a lot in the long run. Indirect costs are costs like additional labor or support and downtime.

    Direct costs are planned expenses that are taken into account long before the first step in ever set into motion. Alternately, indirect costs are usually unplanned, never come at an opportune time, and can be extremely expensive in both real money and lost opportunity. An examples of and indirect cost is unscheduled downtime of a process that is the result of a piece of equipment failing or not functioning properly or an unplanned support structure required to maintain or operate a piece of equipment

    Flow instrumentation is categorically the least understood component in most systems. Operators also have a tendency to ‘blame’ flow instruments when a process either fails or begins to fail. That is why it is important to purchase a flow instrument conveys as much information as possible regarding how it is operating. A unit that displays a number of operating parameters can not help diagnose its own operation but it can also help pinpoint other failures in a system.

  • NIST-Traceable Calibrations
    Included with every Alicat Scientific flow or pressure instrument is a NIST-traceable calibration report. These reports are included to show that the device is operating within specifications.

    Alicat calibration reports show the flow actual flow data and what the Alicat flow instrument is flowing. This information is important to have, and keep, to verify the proper calibration of the unit as well as how the unit flow compared to ideal conditions.

    Alicat instruments come standard with a 5 point calibration. These 5 points are:

    0% flow
    25% flow
    50% flow
    75% flow
    100% full flow

    In the event that you, your calibration center, or metrology lab require more data points Alicat offers additional calibration points for an additional charge. Please don’t hesitate to ask about additional calibration points when the unit is being ordered, or when the unit is sent back for recalibration.
